The Resources Aiding This Rapid Stage of Growth

I have found myself in a rapid stage of growth.

I feel like my mind and my emotional structure and my knowledge and my Being are expanding at a speed that I can barely keep up with.

It is as if the Big Bang is occurring inside my brain and soul, simultaneously.

I have experienced the conception of my sense of spirituality. I am feeling less stressed and more balanced than ever. I feel a sense of peace that has never lived inside me before, or it has lived inside me for a lifetime, unnoticed. My relationship is soaring, our communication improves every day as our minds develop and mutual understanding depends. My body is healthy and strong. I found my calling, my life’s true purpose.

In short: I am learning what happiness means.

I feel like I am finally on the path I was always meant to be on.

In this crucial stage of my life, I am absorbing information like a sponge, and I don’t want to lose track of any of it.

Enter: Why you’re reading this.

These resources I am sharing with you include books, podcasts, and publications that are assisting or inspiring me right now to live the life I want to live. I hope that you will find them just as helpful as I am!

Books

Reading has always been a favorite pastime of mine. Why on earth I almost stopped reading altogether a few years ago baffles me to my core. I literally went 4 years following high school without reading more than The Hunger Games series, The Illustrated Man by Ray Bradbury, and a variety of work by H.P. Lovecraft. I even bought a Kindle during that time, which was likely a subconscious attempt to jump start my reading habit.

As I have talked about before, sometimes it’s hard for me to restart something that I have gone so long without doing. Maybe a lot of us are like that. It almost seems as though it’s not worth it, and the longer it gets put off, the easier it gets to keep putting it off.

However, about a year ago, I dove back into a reading frenzy as quickly as ripping off a band-aid. I knew, deep down, that reading is a tool I can use to propel my professional success forward.

Oddly enough, I remember despising non-fiction growing up. Perhaps most kids and teens are that way. We adore fiction. We adore the stories and the fantasies and the piquing of our imaginations.

Now, I get a similar thrill from nonfiction, especially personal development and business books. The thrill stems from knowing that I am feeding my knowledge bank, learning more about people, myself and the world at large.

These are just a sampling of the books that I believe already have (or soon will) make the biggest impact on my life in its current state.

The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz

The-Four-Agreements

The Four Agreements is the book that opened me up to the spiritual world in the first place. I overheard a mentor of mine recommending this book to a colleague, and I jumped on Amazon to buy it. Little did I know the extent it would open me up to the unseen, the spiritual world I have denied my entire life. Without this book, I doubt I would be headed on the path I am right now.

A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle

A-New-Earth

After reading A New Earth, I feel like I “woke up”. A lightness I had never notice invaded me. If you are wondering what your true purpose is, what your ego is doing to you, and why you keep getting stuck in the past or in the future, buy this book now.

You-are-a-badass-jen-sincero

You Are A Badass by Jen Sincero

Jen Sincero puts a unique spin on personal development and self-help in You Are a Badass. Most of what she taught I already have learned and heard, but she presents it in such a new way, it demands attention. If you’re hesitant about or a bit fearful of personal development in general, this is a great book to start with.

how-to-win-friends-and-influence-people

How to Win Friends & Influence People by Dale Carnegie

Dale Carnegie’s How To Win Friends & Influence People goes beyond personal development.

How to Win Friends and Influence People is like the bible of relationships, both personal and professional. This year, I read the book for a second time to hone my sales ability.

Life-changing-magic-of-tidying-up

The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo

Call it jumping on the bandwagon, but The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up has been on my Amazon wishlist for more than a year. I am dying to read it, especially since intentional living and minimalism has taken hold of my brain with an iron grip.

On The Summer Reading List...

Note: I still read a good bit of fiction. I actually like to follow a pattern, switching back and forth between fiction and nonfiction. Finish one book, start another. Fiction fuels my creative mind and inspires my own writing. I encourage you to experiment with your own reading preferences!

Podcasts

I have known about the wide world of podcasts for many years at this point. But I never tapped into this world until a few months ago. Maybe I instinctively knew that once I started down the rabbit hole, there would be no turning back.

Now that I know that there is, quite literally, a podcast on any topic I’ve ever dreamed of, I can’t stop. I have almost entirely replaced my music addiction with podcasts (ok, maybe not almost entirely…)

I am not going to list many podcasts here because, in all honesty, I haven’t listened to that many in depth. I don’t want to regurgitate someone’s “Top 10 Podcasts” post without having any input of my own. But, I will share the ones I have either listened to or come with a trusted, personal recommendation.

Note: Now that I have a phone again, I have subscribed to a ton of new podcasts through the wonderful Podcasts app. I’m excited to have these podcasts on-the-go with me. This is especially because it’s difficult (and not advised) to listen to podcasts while writing, which most of my day consists of.

Magazines & Print Publications

Even in my quest for a more minimalist lifestyle, semi-annual independent magazines like the ones I list below are drawing me in. I am currently researching how to deal with magazines when embracing a life of the minimal.

The obsession started with some research on magazines that accept contributor submissions - my current, somewhat short-term, goal is to be featured in a magazine. Here are the top publications on my wishlist:

My life is changing before my eyes, but it's no longer passing me by. I am making these changes, consciously, with intention.

These books, podcasts, and other resources are aiding me on my journey. Maybe, just maybe, they can help you, too.

What are you reading or listening to right now?

With love,
Vanessa
